| Most of the London funding – £26.8 million – is being distributed through the Creative Foundations Fund, which targets urgent infrastructure needs at theatres, galleries and performance spaces. Alongside the Southbank Centre, major recipients include the Royal Opera House, which has been awarded £5 million, and Theatre Royal Stratford East, which has received £1.75 million.Libraries are also included in the funding round, with £1.5 million distributed across seven boroughs through the Libraries Improvement Fund. Projects include a major upgrade to Romford Library in Havering and new “digital physical activity hubs” in libraries across Barking and Dagenham, designed to encourage exercise through interactive technology.Michelle Walker, London Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “This significant investment is a vital step in safeguarding the future of cultural venues, museums and libraries at a time when many are facing real challenges.
