Sprint launches rewards program strikingly similar to T-Mobile Tuesdays

Sprint is taking a page right out of T-Mobile’s playbook. The carrier, which is inching toward a merger with T-Mobile pending regulatory approval, launched a rewards program intended to increase loyalty among its customers.

My Sprint Rewards, an app-based program, provides customers with promotions and exclusive deals from a variety of partners in apparel, auto, beauty, electronics, health, home, sports and travel. And to kick things off, the nation’s fourth-largest carrier is offering customers a free large one-topping pizza from Papa John’s.

T-Mobile launched an almost identical program almost three years ago called T-Mobile Tuesdays, which refreshes deals each week from a similar lineup of retailers. Both programs are available to customers at no additional cost, but the carriers find themselves in very different circumstances.

T-Mobile broke multiple records during the fourth quarter of 2018 and while Sprint reversed a long period of losses and beat some expectations in its most recently reported quarter, it appears increasingly desperate for its proposed merger with T-Mobile to reach a conclusion. Total subscriber additions are down and the carrier’s rate of churn is up.

My Sprint Rewards will be refreshed regularly with offers from various brands. Some of the current offers include discounted movie tickets, cash back rewards on select purchases and a chance to win an all-inclusive trip for two to St. Lucia.
