A pocket park worthy of the name has appeared next to the Barbican and is a few pot plants in a few concrete pots. It’s a temporary pocket park sitting next to another temporary pocket park that’s so temporary that it’s still there three years after it opened.
This new addition — extension? — sits next to the steel containers in more Barbican themed concrete containers, with the planting running up trellises.
The garden includes a mixture of drought-tolerant, low maintenance plants that will provide flowers and fragrance all year round.
It creates a mini corridor of planting to walk through, but maybe it’s just me, but if I wanted to create a corridor of planting, I might have gone for planting that creates more of a solid and very immediate wall of green. At the moment, and accepting that it’s still new, it does look a bit unfinished.
The new urban green space will be a testbed for a future landscaping project in Moor Lane, after the development of 21 Moorfields is completed. Using feedback from locals, the aim is to create a long-lasting green space.
